DRIVING DIRECTIONS FROM ORLANDO AIRPORT |

From airport take South Exit (Terminal “B” side) to S/R 417. (Toll Road - $2.50). Proceed West on SR 417 to end, where it merges onto Interstate 4. Proceed West on I-4 to the Lake Alfred/Winter Haven exit, Rt 557 (Exit numbers have recently changed). This is approximately 12 miles from SR 417. Proceed South on SR 557 approx 6 miles. This turns into S/R 555 at first cross intersection. Continue straight about 3/4 mile until end. Proceed West (right turn) on US 92 about 1 mile. Airport and 21st St will be on the left across from very large American Flag. Turn left. Proceed around airport perimeter to FBO and airport entrance. AIRS is immediately on the right as you enter the airport. |

We are located on the South East corner of Winter Haven Airport in the existing Terminal Building. Winter Haven (GIF) is located at Lat. N28-03.8, Long W081-45.2 approximately 30 miles SW of Orlando International, just outside of the 30 NM ring. NO Class “B” clearance is required. There is also NO control tower, but a very active CTAF on 123.05. The ASOS is on 133.67. Clearance delivery is available on the surface on 121.72. Caution: Many gliders, ultralights, seaplanes, and NORAD aircraft use the airport. Calm wind runway is RWY 4. GIF has two runways: 4-22, 5006' and 11-29, 4000'. Only 4-22 is lighted for night operations. It is an IFR airport served by a VOR approach based on the LAL VOR. Airport elevation is 146' making it one of the highest airports in the Florida Mountains, so be sure to bring your Oxygen. Jack Brown’s SPB is on the airport so float equipped aircraft have direct access to our facilities by landing in Lake Jessie. There are currently three fuel suppliers on the airport. Winter Haven Air services offers mobile fueling by truck. Another operator offers 24 hr self serve fueling at reduced prices, and Brown’s SPB also has fuel available. Lake Aircraft operators who are here to visit us, or for maintenance, are NOT charged a tie down fee by agreement. Tie downs are public and not designated. Find the best ropes and tie it down wherever you wish. Hangers are in short supply and are difficult to find available. Bring a sun shade or canopy cover, especially if you visit in the summer months. Rental cars ARE NOT available on the airport, but three companies have cars available by appointment. Try Budget, Hertz or Enterprise. Usually they will bring a car to the airport if you give them notice several days in advance. Accommodations (Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn, Day’s Inn, Howard Johnson’s, etc.) and restaurants are about 4 miles from the airport and DO NOT offer courtesy vans. Let us know in advance, and we will get you there. There are also several other small motel operators and Bed & Breakfast homes available for discriminating visitors. Call or Email us about these. |
